random thoughts

I rather hate the self-assuredness of "confident" people. It's arrogant to approach life as if you've figured it out.

There are no correct answers. There is no proper way to react. There is no appropriate thing to do. There is no right way to be.

ANYONE who says ANYTHING definitively is officially full of shit.

Yes...me too.

I cannot stand confident people!!!!!!!!!! They don't look at the mistakes they made along their road of life..Truly they do not understand the real meaning of life or its concept. They just feel smug and like they know everything and are so great because they have their lives together, or so they think they do...

I disagree. Confidence and arrogance are two seperate things entirely. Being confident does not imply that a person is smug, or that they know more than others. It doesn't mean that they have it "figured out". It just means that they have confidence to move forward, to be effective, to be an active participant instead of a uncertain bystander in life. Why go through life second guessing? Why not learn something in the process? Just because you are confident doesn't mean you aren't reflective, introspective....that you haven't learned anything or aren't still learning....maybe some people think it is better to live in a state of inertia, of arrested development.....but a lack of confidence can be as unattractive as arrogance.

"There are no correct answers. There is no proper way to react. There is no appropriate thing to do. There is no right way to be."

Of course, by making this statement, you just excuse yourself from being liable for any of your actions. There certainly ARE appropriate ways to react, appropraite ways to be.

Unless you are only concerned with yourself and how things effect you.

And being full of contradictions doesn't give you an advantage over other peoples' opinions, either.

I suppose my problem is with certainty (what you would probably call arrogance) rather than confidence. I agree with most everything in your first paragraph. My argument was more Socratic, as I believe that the only true wisdom is in knowing that one knows nothing.

"There certainly ARE appropriate ways to react, appropraite ways to be."

Socially acceptable = appropriate?

Then I would agree, but I don't believe that there is an objectively "correct" way to react to most situations, nor do I believe that most questions have one unequivocally right answer.

We're all full of shit. At least I acknoweldge it. Do you?

According to your logic, if I answer anythying definitively, then I am, by default, full of shit. So, you win. Officially.

Socrates was full of shit, too. His is a self- important yet self-handicapping statement.

You can circle that logic right back around.....belief in nothing is still belief....but it's belief in nothing.....

Yes. Yes you are.

"Socrates was full of shit, too."

And he would be the first to admit it.

"You can circle that logic right back around.....belief in nothing is still belief....but it's belief in nothing..... "

The logic is admittedly circular, but don't associate my little neo-Socratic musings with outright nihilism. Not that nihilists are anything "to be afraid of".
